Introduction
I have an extensive background working in technology startups in San Francisco Bay Area for several years before I made a career pivot into investing and finance in 2020/2021. During that period of time, I got deeply interested in understanding how the global economies and financial markets work. Ray Dalio’s “The Principles of Dealing with a Changing World Order” had a big role to play in inspiring me to embark on a quest to study and disentangle how the world’s financial markets and economies work and use the insights to discover and invest in companies that sit at the intersection of key technological and cultural waves.

Less than two years later, I started my Substack called The Pragmatic Optimist. In 2024, I also started actively contributing to Seeking Alpha & other financial platforms to share my research on technology companies that I had started investing in. Today, my work on both these platforms share a tight synergy in terms of our core macroeconomic thesis, industry trends in AI and investing themes and companies. Additionally, we also share our portfolio along with real-time trades through our paid service on The Pragmatic Optimist newsletter.

What is your investment strategy?
We focus on high-growth assets that generally sit within AI or the digitally native ecosystem, along with some exposure to cryptocurrency. Of late, we’ve been utilizing a lot of thematic investment strategies to deploy our capital, possibly even in multi-phased approaches.

On a more tactical basis, we lean a lot on top-down methodologies, looking at industries, sectors, themes, dependencies, competitive positioning and then picking out our winners which we believe will deliver category-leading performances over the rest of its peers. A lot of our research is also centered in identifying market mispricing in companies, particularly, where revenue and/or margins may be about to inflect in either direction.

The thing is that the pace of progress in AI is much faster than the previous innovation cycles like cloud computing, internet, etc., so this is a constant process of keeping ourselves updated across the demand signals developing across the entire AI ecosystem.

How many stocks are currently held in your portfolio?
In The Pragmatic Optimist portfolio, we own a total of 22 stocks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum as well as iShares MSCI India ETF for exposure in the Indian markets.

Which sectors do you mainly focus on?
I tend to focus my research on hyperscalers, software and cybersecurity. Particularly, I am keen on finding long-term opportunities in platform companies with embedded distribution, ecosystems that lock in users, system-level integration that competitors can’t easily replicate.

What are your 3 highest conviction stocks?
$META - Meta
$PLTR - Palantir
$CRWD - CrowdStrike

What is the stock in your portfolio with the highest return?
The current position in our portfolio with the highest return is AMD $AMD, yielding 77%.

Since the start of 2026, we have trimmed and/or exited several positions at significant gains, which include iShares Silver Trust ETF at 200%, SPDR Gold Shares ETF at 110%, Celestica at 250%, Alphabet at 50% and TSMC at 50%.

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
My two biggest mistakes since launching The Pragmatic Optimist portfolio include investing in Zscaler and remaining overly patient with the stock. Since 2026, it has seen the largest decline in the cybersecurity complex as the competition in the Zero Trust space heats up, with companies like Cloudflare that are eating its lunch. At the moment, we are planning to exit the position altogether, as we consolidate our holdings in our higher conviction names.

My second mistake is building too heavy a position in Microsoft for the portfolio at the end of last year, which is also weighing down on the portfolio performance.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
The macro narrative at the moment is “higher for longer”. With inflation projected to tick up higher in the short-term, I believe any bounce in the S&P 500 should be treated with caution, at least until we get evidence that inflation expectations has peaked. This will create a lot of short-term volatility and it is important to practice appropriate risk management strategies as you navigate between cash preservation vs. selective investments.

Introduction
I’ve been interested in investing since high school. I was in college during the 2008/2009 financial crisis and it was an extremely cool education experience. We watched the stock market crash live on TV at night and analyzed government responses in class the next day.

I graduated with a degree in Economics and Finance and worked in the finance industry for nearly a decade. My background in finance mainly included accounting for investment funds/mutual funds, financial statement preparation, internal audit and 3rd party audit support, and eventually working on some popular ETFs. It is this background in accounting and financial statement analysis that I lean on when analyzing a company and I think differentiates the way I write about investing on Substack.

On a more personal note, I am very open about being in recovery from addiction. Today I have over 10.5 years sober/in recovery. As you can imagine, addiction takes everything. In my journey, I spent down my entire portfolio, retirement savings, and all discretionary funds to fuel it. I had spent ever cent I made in finance.

Eventually, I got help, prioritized my health and chose to leave my career in finance to begin working in the addiction recovery non-profit world. Today, I am the Executive Director (CEO) of a growing non-profit recovery organization and love what I do.

What is your investment strategy?
My investing style has been heavily inspired by people like Buffett. I have always leaned contrarian; I’m a value investor at heart. To me, that means I’m looking to buy companies that are fundamentally disconnected from their current prices. I like to anchor my portfolio in a set of ‘core’ businesses while also allocating a small percentage to smaller cap stocks crossing an inflection point.

How many stocks are currently held in your portfolio?
I generally aim to hold 8 to 15 companies in my portfolio with a maximum of 20. Currently, I am holding 16 positions, with my top four holdings making up roughly 46% of the total and my top six holdings accounting for 62%.

Which sectors do you mainly focus on?
I wouldn’t say I am necessarily super focused on particular sectors but my portfolio leans towards tech and fintech – though I hold everything from construction to retail and in between. I will say, I do avoid certain sectors – pharma, health insurance, healthcare. Too much regulatory risk and unknowns for me.

What are your 3 highest conviction stocks?
$GOOGL - Alphabet
$META - Meta
$UBER - Uber

What is the stock in your portfolio with the highest return?
Currently, $IESC – IES Holdings. A picks and shovel play on the data center buildout. I trimmed recently at highs on about a 200% return but it’s come down a bit in last week.

I am proud to say however that I am still holding many META shares I bought as low as $103 in 2022.

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
Not having a plan or not knowing fully what I own. There has been many times along my journey that I didn’t do enough research when I first opened a position and that makes it hard to have conviction when they market is saying your wrong. It is always important for me to understand and know what I own and why so that when the market, or my stocks, inevitably experience a downturn I am not shaken out.

Also, wanting to get rich fast. When I first got back on my feet I was eager to make up for lost time and started to invest using options without an appropriate plan. It didn’t go well. Today I have rules for myself in what I do and why to prevent hard, past lessons from happening again.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
At the risk or being repetitive, know what you own and why. It’s ok to be inspired by others, I certainly am, but it needs to go deeper than that. In investing, emotion is the enemy and trusting your work is key to keeping a steady temperament.

Introduction
I am a software developer by profession. I’ve always been curious about the stock market and different investing strategies. I initially started investing to create an additional source of income and side hustle, but over the last three years my perspective has changed. I now see investing as a game of strategy and patience rather than quick profits.

Currently, I am also a financial influencer on X @AIStockSaavy, where I combine my technology background with financial analysis to present market information in a clearer and more practical way. My goal is to help the community understand data better and make more informed investment decisions.

What is your investment strategy?
My strategy is to focus on companies where my conviction grows over time. I mainly prefer small-cap and mid-cap stocks. I usually buy larger quantities, typically between 100 and 500 shares, and begin trimming my position when the stock doubles, triples, and beyond. This allows me to lock in profits while still keeping exposure to long-term growth.

I don’t invest blindly. I keep a stock on my watchlist for at least 3–4 weeks before buying. During that time, I research the company, its revenue, and its market capitalization to understand the business better.

My biggest mistake was investing blindly in meme stocks during my early days, around 2020–2021, without doing proper research.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
Be patient. There will always be another good entry point. Take profits when appropriate and reinvest in companies where you have strong conviction for future growth.

Introduction
I have always been competitive by nature, and I found that the largest battleground to compete on at a global scale was in the equities markets. My attention to detail led me to found my own equity research company because I was frustrated that company-specific data offered by traditional aggregators was not expansive enough. In addition, I felt that research coverage as a whole was more focused on pricing, momentum, and mood instead of growth, cash flows, and risk (intrinsic value).

What is your investment strategy?
My investment approach focuses solely on purchasing high-quality, fortress-like businesses based on fair intrinsic value. The common characteristics of such companies are high barriers to entry, exceptional margins, competitive advantages, and most importantly, resiliency while also being difficult to disrupt. In aggregate, it is a very boring approach that requires patience, as the target businesses seldomly trade below fair intrinsic value. In addition, it is quite time-consuming to continuously follow up with each business of interest in order to ensure that the criteria are met.

We are at a point in time where intrinsic valuation has become increasingly rare in the world of securities investing. I have found my approach the only one that allows me to sleep soundly, even while allocating 100% of my portfolio to a single stock at times. A somewhat peculiar aspect of my investment strategy is that I more or less never look at any stock charts and only get a quote for a business after I have valued it (to compare where the intrinsic value is in relation to the current quote).

How many stocks are currently held in your portfolio?
At the time of writing, my current portfolio features 6 stocks, with the highest allocation being around 40%. Typically, my portfolio features 8 or fewer stocks.

Which sectors do you mainly focus on?
The type of company that meets my criteria for investment is typically found within financials, financial services, and the technology sectors. However, my research coverage is expansive and not limited to any one sector.

What are your 3 highest conviction stocks?
$FICO - Fair Isaac is the poster child for wide-moat, high-quality compounding businesses. The pricing power is immense, as showcased by a ~725% increase in prices for its services over the past 7 years. Even though competitors offer their services for free, FICO is so engrained in the financial system that they retain >95% market share.

$PLTR - Palantir Technologies is another high-conviction stock that has been largely misunderstood by both professionals and peers. Behind the seemingly endless controversial headlines, there lies a business that has taken a completely unique approach to its business structure and approach to software development. Palantir will be the software platform that will power the AI revolution because it identified how to extract value from AI many years in advance and essentially has no competition.

$HOOD - Finally, Robinhood Markets is a financial juggernaut that I find has correctly identified the future of financial services and has unmatched product velocity. It is quickly diversifying its lines of businesses and has already reached 11 unique business lines with a run rate of over $100 million. The volatility that comes from transaction-based revenues (trading) will soon be offset by other value-added services in the form of fee- and subscription-based revenues.

What is the stock in your portfolio with the highest return?
$PLTR - Palantir is my largest success, with around a 2150% return at the time of writing.

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
I am fortunate enough to have avoided any major mistakes that otherwise may have obliterated my portfolio. That is mainly due to being adamant about sticking to my investment philosophy. However, a common mistake and something I struggle with is position sizing and capital allocation. I currently have 6 stocks in my portfolio, but there are more businesses that meet my criteria and trade undervalued. In hindsight, whenever a stock I like and could have invested in performs better than my current holdings, it will always feel like a mistake. That is the feeling even though the decision itself was sound and reasonable at the time of allocating the capital.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
The most important and solid advice I can offer is the classical “know what you own.”

Introduction
I am originally from Latvia, but I moved to the Netherlands to study finance. I ultimately ended up living in Holland for 10 years before moving to Asia. During my time there, I worked in corporate finance in Amsterdam, focusing on accounting and later treasury.

I began reading Substack in 2023 and quickly realized that this is something that I could do, so I started Global Equity Briefing in February 2024.

The goal was to become a smarter investor by documenting my journey. I remember that a few years ago, I read a news story where some researchers ran a trial, where they forced people to write down all the food that they ate to calculate calories. These researchers discovered that the mere act of documenting what one ate led to people making smarter and healthier choices.

I would say that running an investment newsletter has similar dynamics at play. The mere act of documenting my research and investments is leading me to make smarter choices.

What is your investment strategy?
I’m not interested in buying $1 for 50 cents. Whenever I engage with people on X, I often come across “value investors” who have watched a few old Warren Buffett videos and believe the only way to invest is to buy companies growing 2% at a 6 P/E, hoping growth accelerates to 4% and the multiple expands to 8.

That’s just not how I see investing. I’m investing in the future, not speculating on the past.

I’m looking to buy $5, $10, or even $20 for my $1. That’s why I focus on companies in crucial industries with large and expanding total addressable markets (TAMs). Most importantly, my focus is global.

We are living through massive changes — a new global order has arrived. Covid, climate change, Brexit, Donald Trump, the rise of China, the EV and green energy revolution, and, last but certainly not least, the coming AI revolution — all have reshaped the world.

While not an exhaustive list, the world as we knew it is over. The shifting global order will create huge winners and massive losers. Countries will fall, century-old giants will go bankrupt, and new companies will rise. My goal is to be ready — to identify the winners and avoid getting burned by the losers.

How many stocks are currently held in your portfolio?
I am a firm believer that diworsification is a bigger killer of returns than lack of diversification. That’s why I own only five stocks.

Institutional managers preach diversification because their core objective is to prevent investors from withdrawing capital from the fund, so the managers can collect high fees. Their clients are fickle and react emotionally even to small drawdowns. For this reason, fund managers must avoid volatility.

As individual investors, we don’t have the limitations that billion-dollar fund professional investors have. We are allowed to double down on our best ideas.

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
Without a doubt, it’s SolarEdge $SEDG.

I bought SolarEdge during the 2019-2021 stock bubble. It is an Israeli company that manufactures solar panels, batteries, and inverters. Since then, the stock is down over 90% as the industry struggles to grapple with higher interest rates, supply chain issues, and accelerating competition from China.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
To become a successful investor, you don’t need to be a genius, patience and consistency are enough.

My advice for investors is to stay consistent and maintain a regular investing cadence. Research shows that returns can suffer significantly just by missing a few of the best days in the market each year.

Introduction
I got started investing early. I saved money from collecting cans and mowing lawns and bought my first stock when I was 13 years old. That stock (Medtronic - $MDT) helped me pay for college, where I earned an engineering degree and worked at 3M for seven years. But eventually, investing drew me back in, and I got an MBA in 2010. I’ve been writing about the market publicly ever since.

What is your investment strategy?
Asymmetric Investing leans into the advantages we have over the market. As individual investors, we can take a long-term view, embrace more risk, focus on true compounders, and lean into the uncertainty that Wall Street hates. Using those advantages to find stocks with 10x potential over the next decade is at the core of how I invest — and central to the buy-and-hold strategy that has proven so successful.

Introduction

What inspired you to start Public, and what’s your background in investing?
Public was born out of the realization that most modern investing platforms were heavily focused on speculation — crypto-only players, CFD trading in Europe, options trading in the U.S. What was missing was the next-generation Schwab: a platform for people who want to build serious, long-term portfolios.

For me personally, I didn’t really start investing until after I was 30. That used to be the norm — people only started thinking about investing after marriage, kids, or an inheritance. Today, financial literacy starts earlier, technology makes onboarding seamless, and fractional assets make investing accessible. We saw an opportunity to build something for this new generation that wants to take investing seriously as a lifelong endeavor.

What is Public, and how does it stand out from other investing apps?
Public is built for those who take investing seriously — focusing on long-term wealth building, not just lottery-ticket trading. We give investors access to multiple asset classes, research tools, and features that help them build well-balanced portfolios.

Technology is what truly sets us apart. Many incumbents still suffer from outdated, clunky systems with frequent downtime. At Public, we focus on stability, security, and modern user experiences.

A good example is our new AI-powered tool called Generated Assets. It lets anyone turn an idea into an investable index — for example, you could create an index of ‘CEOs who do a lot of podcasts’ and instantly see the companies, performance backtests, and even an asset score showing the risks. Strategy & Philosophy

What is your personal investing philosophy?
I’m fairly concentrated in my investments. Partly that’s because of my position as founder — much of my net worth is tied to my own company. But even in my stock portfolio, I focus on a few names.

The reason is simple: I only invest in what I truly understand. I have a strong background in technology, and I feel I can analyze tech companies better than most. Because of that understanding, I’m comfortable taking more concentrated positions and more risk. To me, concentration builds wealth, as long as you actually understand what you’re investing in.

What does “long-term investing” mean to you?
For me, long-term means at least five years, but often ten or more. In my buy-and-hold portfolio, which holds most of my liquid wealth, I don’t expect to sell any position for years unless the thesis changes.

At the same time, I do keep a separate short-term portfolio where I trade options and take riskier bets. That’s not about wealth building — it’s for learning and challenging myself. But my core approach is long-term compounding in companies I believe will grow steadily for decades.

Market & Trends

How do you see the current market?
Markets right now are in an early, exciting but also risky phase. A lot of money is going into building the infrastructure for the future, especially around AI, but mainstream adoption isn’t here yet. That creates a situation where sentiment can swing: first excitement, then doubt when the returns don’t show up immediately.

That’s part of the cycle. To me, this feels a lot like the early internet. There may still be a bubble phase, but the fundamentals are real this time — these companies already have revenues and efficiencies, unlike many dot-com firms back then.

For investors, the key is to stay focused on the long term, be prepared for volatility, and make sure you have cash on the sidelines to take advantage when markets dip. I don’t feel fear in those moments — my only concern is whether I have enough liquidity ready to buy.

Which trends do you believe will shape investing over the next 5–10 years?
At the highest level, I still believe in AI. It will reshape almost everything, and we’re only at the beginning. Today the focus is still on building infrastructure, but over the next decade AI will be integrated across industries from pharma to defense as adoption grows.

Beyond AI, I also see opportunity in Europe. As a German, I sense a cultural shift: less bureaucracy, faster execution, massive investment in infrastructure and defense. If that continues, it could spark a new wave of growth in the region.

So for the decade ahead, the combination of global AI adoption and a reinvigorated Europe are, in my view, two of the most important themes shaping the future of investing.

Mistakes & Learnings

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
I always lose money when I invest in things I don’t truly understand. Following someone else’s trade blindly — maybe after hearing a few sentences that sounded right — that’s when I lose. I rarely lose when I invest in areas I actually understand through experience and my own research. The mistakes always come when I act emotionally or just follow others.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
Do the work. Take the time to truly dig into the research — even run your own spreadsheets on companies. It’s very easy to get excited and make wrong decisions based on anecdotal data, comments you’ve heard from others, or numbers you’ve picked up on CNBC. You might think you understand it because you can repeat those numbers out loud, but without doing the work yourself, that’s just false confidence.

Introduction
I hold two Master's Degrees, in programming and management. I worked in industrial programming while also doing vector design, which later evolved into creating infographics for stock market analytics that I now share on social media.

My interest in investing began during the 2006–2007 boom. Back then, I saw a TV interview with an “investor” who claimed to pick stocks by flipping a coin. Believing this was gambling, I stayed away from the markets until the 2008 financial crisis left a lasting impression on me.

By 2011, I began trading Forex, aiming to build a strategy that could profit in both bull and bear markets. With my programming background, I developed a trading robot that ran in real time for several years and showed strong results — though I only trusted it with a small part of my capital.

Gradually, I shifted from trading to long-term investing. Reading Peter Lynch and Nassim Taleb helped me realize I was buying actual businesses, not just tickers. This gave me the clarity and confidence to invest with purpose.

Still influenced by 2008, I long expected another crash. The turning point came with COVID-19: on April 15, 2020, I moved all my savings into an investment account. Since then, I’ve been managing my portfolio and sharing insights on Twitter/X and in my Substack newsletter Compounding Your Wealth.

What is your investment strategy?
I invest in growth stocks, primarily software SaaS companies.

The principles I use to select stocks for my portfolio are: a sufficient economic moat and signs of its strengthening. To survive in the competitive world of software companies, a business must reinvest in future growth and launch new products that gain market demand. I track metrics such as S&M and R&D efficiency on a quarterly basis.

For me, high-quality management is crucial (I prioritize founder-led companies) as well as skin in the game. I also look for a strong financial balance sheet — I prefer companies without significant debt, since, as Peter Lynch once said, “It’s very hard to go bankrupt when you don’t have any debt.”

I also monitor the quarterly performance of each stock, focusing on the data and its trends. In investing, momentum in fundamentals matters more than static figures.

After 2022, valuation multiples became more important in my process. Now, I track weekly valuation dynamics and publish charts on metrics such as EV/Sales, EV/Gross Profit, and Rule of 40 relative to analyst revenue growth expectations.

How many stocks are currently held in your portfolio?
I currently hold 15 stocks in my portfolio. In the past, the portfolio was more concentrated, with as few as 7 stocks at its minimum. At the beginning of my investment journey, however, I had a significantly larger number of stocks in the portfolio.

Which sectors do you mainly focus on?
Primarily in software SaaS companies, since they generate recurring revenue and provide enough data to better understand business dynamics.

What are your 3 highest conviction stocks?
At the moment, these are:
$CRWD - CrowdStrike
$MELI - MercadoLibre
$NET - Cloudflare

What is the stock in your portfolio with the highest return?
I don’t aim to generate massive gains from a single position, which is why I don’t have any 10-baggers. I’m constantly adding and trimming positions depending on the dynamics of fundamental metrics and valuation multiples. At the moment, my top-performing stock is $NET - Cloudflare (+189%).

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
The biggest mistake for me was starting out with Forex trading, though it ultimately led me to where I am today as an investor. Another major one came in 2022, when SaaS stocks collapsed (WCLD –51.6%, ARKK –67%). I held a highly concentrated portfolio of 7–10 stocks, convinced I could pick the “winners” that might avoid the downturn. Instead, all suffered. I kept reallocating from one falling stock into another that soon dropped as well, taking multiple hits. At the time, I thought reacting quickly was best — but it wasn’t.

Now, I only make major portfolio adjustments after earnings season, once I can compare results across companies and sectors.

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
I recommend starting to invest as early as possible by setting aside a portion of your salary each month. It’s also important to understand whether you enjoy analyzing the businesses of the companies whose stocks you want to buy. If you don’t find this interesting, I recommend investing in the S&P 500 index instead. When it comes to investing in stocks, I believe it should be viewed as owning a share of a business.

Introduction
During my studies at university shortly after the 2008 financial crisis, I made my first stock purchases, initially focusing on trading. After reading The Intelligent Investor, I discovered that a fundamental, long‑term approach suited me far better.

Since 2013, I have concentrated on long‑term portfolio investing. I then spent eight years as a buy‑side analyst at an asset‑management firm. Just before the COVID‑19 pandemic began, I left that firm to launch my own project, Investment Bastion — a platform for dashboards and scoring systems for stock valuation.

What is your investment strategy?
I maintain a long-term core portfolio of ETFs, complemented by an active stock portfolio focused on efficiently growing companies trading at reasonable valuations.

Stock selection is based on my proprietary scoring systems. I'm currently transitioning to a fully automated workflow: I define my parameters in an Excel-based terminal I built, which then outputs the most suitable stocks for portfolio construction.

How many stocks are currently held in your portfolio?
I manage two portfolios, each holding 15 to 20 stocks. One focused on large caps and the other on mid/small caps. I'm also developing a new dividend strategy for a subscriber, which will likely result in a separate 15-stock portfolio dedicated to that approach.

Which sectors do you mainly focus on?
My primary sector focus is on Technology, Consumer, and Industrials. I build valuation frameworks using scoring systems, and I find that fundamental metrics in these sectors tend to be less volatile than in areas like Materials or Energy, making them more suitable for the kind of analysis I do.

Introduction
Picture a 16-year-old kid staring at his computer screen in disbelief. In just a few days, his first investment ever, in Terra, the hottest Spanish-speaking IPO ever, had tripled. That kid was me, 26 years ago. And although my dad had been teaching me about markets, nothing prepared me for that rush.

Here's what nobody tells you about early success: it's the most dangerous teacher you'll ever have. For years, I chased that Terra high with gut feelings and hot tips. Sometimes I won big. More often, I learned expensive lessons about luck versus skill. The turning point came when I realized I was gambling with my future. That's when I discovered that legendary investors like Benjamin Graham and Peter Lynch didn't rely on luck - they had systematic, research-backed approaches that turned investing from guesswork into science.

After decades, I learned the most important lesson: the best investors aren't the ones who get lucky once - they're the ones who stack the odds in their favor, every single time.

What is your investment strategy?
Picture two fishermen heading out for the day. The first fisherman follows the crowd to wherever boats are gathering that morning, chasing rumors and trusting his gut.

The second discovered something remarkable while studying decades of fishing records: certain waters consistently produced three times more fish than others. So he ignores the crowd and sails directly to the proven spots where fish actually concentrate. Guess who returns with the better catch?

While 99% of investors chase hot tips and follow the crowd, I simply fish where decades of academic research shows winning stocks actually concentrate: companies with good growth, reasonable value, strong profitability, solid financial health, and shareholder-friendly management.

$NVDA - NVIDIA, which many love to hate, but I still see a brilliant future ahead under exceptional leadership.
$META - Meta, the company literally no one can go a day without using - whether through Instagram, WhatsApp, or their other platforms - with tremendous optionality ahead.

What is the stock in your portfolio with the highest return?
$NVDA - Definitely NVIDIA. I bought it early because their score looked exceptional and it had incredible optionality across AI, autonomous driving, and crypto. I figured only one of those had to work for it to be the investment of a lifetime. Well... let's just say it worked out better than expected!

What is the biggest investing mistake you have made?
It's always been the same two mistakes: selling winners too early and waiting for "better prices" that never come. My biggest regrets aren't about losses - they're about missed opportunities from overthinking great companies when the data was already screaming "buy".

If you could give one piece of advice to investors, what would it be?
Stop trying to time the market and start timing your behavior. The biggest enemy of long-term returns isn't market volatility - it's emotional decision-making. Develop a systematic approach, stick to it through all market conditions, and remember that successful investing is more about psychology than intelligence. Most people have the tools to succeed; they just lack the discipline to use them consistently.

I am the founder and portfolio manager at Babylon Capital®, a firm I established in 2017 with $800,000 in assets under management. My investment philosophy centers on identifying businesses with wide, defensible moats — driven by competitive advantages such as high barriers to entry or significant switching costs — that enable them to sustain elevated returns on invested capital over extended periods.

These competitive strengths often manifest in characteristics like strong pricing power, margin expansion, and the ability to reinvest at high rates of return. I prioritize companies with robust balance sheets, a proven track record of consistent growth in free cash flow and earnings per share, and underlying structural reasons that support their ability to deliver predictable, linear growth over time.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼?
Today my portfolio consists of 16 businesses, with a deliberate concentration in my top four positions:
$V - Visa
$MA - Mastercard
$ICE - Intercontinental Exchange
$SPGI - S&P Global

These four positions collectively represent ~40% of my overall allocation.

𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻?
While I do not anchor my investment approach to specific sectors, I maintain a disciplined focus on identifying the highest quality businesses, often favoring industries with structural advantages — such as software companies with recurring revenue, or financial data, stock exchanges, and financial technology firms that benefit from network effects and high barriers to entry — while generally steering clear of sectors like banking, airlines, or commodities that face greater cyclical or competitive pressures.

That said, I remain open to exceptional opportunities across all industries; for instance, although I typically avoid home building, I recognize that overlooking a sector entirely might mean missing a standout business like $NVR NVR Inc., which benefits from a uniquely resilient business model that distinguishes it from traditional home builders. Ultimately, my priority is to deeply research and invest in best-in-class companies, regardless of their sector.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
I currently work in medical sales while managing my own investment portfolio, something I’ve been doing for nearly six years now. My core belief is this: if I can earn money, then learn how to make that money work for me — passively — it will lead to a future where I can be truly free. I focus on achieving freedom, not collecting material possessions.

I started investing when I began my career in medical sales and finally had some disposable income. Before that, I earned very little while serving in the Marines and studying in college. It was during my first job in pharma that a colleague who casually picked stocks recommended I read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. That book completely changed the way I thought about money.

Today, I'm laser-focused on achieving financial freedom. I even share my journey publicly through my portfolio, so that others can learn from what I do — if they choose to.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆?
I run a growth-style portfolio, focusing primarily on companies that are profitable, or close to profitability, and have durable business models that can last for many years.

If I decide to invest in an unprofitable stock, I limit it to around 1% of my portfolio, and I need to have a strong belief that the company will reach profitability within 12 months of my initial purchase.

My biggest losses came from buying either unprofitable companies or stocks that were simply too expensive. Once I cut those mistakes out, my returns improved dramatically.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼?
Currently 19, but I like to be closer to 15. All my companies are still performing well, so it’s hard to move on from exceptional profitable growth companies.

𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻?
I don’t like to limit myself to specific sectors, because with the right research, any sector can make sense. That said, I do have a strong preference for companies involved in the data explosion we’re currently experiencing. Data isn’t just fueling AI, the buzzword of the past few years, it’s also helping businesses make more informed decisions across the board. Many companies are now leading the way in organizing and applying this data effectively.

I also believe globalized commerce, and the logistics that support it, represents a major secular tailwind going forward.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀?

I have owned all these companies for years.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻?
$PLTR - Palantir, since I bought at $8 per share.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲?
I mentioned it briefly above, but my biggest mistake was buying unprofitable companies because I believed more in the “story” than in the actual path to profitability. At the beginning of 2022, I was overweight in several of these unprofitable companies, which hurt my returns early in the year.

Back in 2021, I also fell into the narrative that cloud computing companies were the greatest businesses ever, only to watch their growth expectations continually get revised downward. Even today, many of their stock prices still haven’t returned to their previous all-time highs.

Moral of the story: size your positions carefully when it comes to unprofitable companies, and never assume a company’s momentum will last forever.

I first got introduced to investing when I picked up "The Snowball", a biography on Warren Buffett, when I was 18. Ever since, I’ve been enamored by the idea that I could have my money working for me. The competitive nature of the stock market was also interesting to me. It’s like the intellectual Olympics, and the best ideas tend to win over time. After working a few years in the insurance industry as an actuary, I decided to pivot to the world of investing in 2021 after joining The Investor’s Podcast Network @TIP_Network. It’s been an amazing journey that has allowed me to continuously learn and meet wonderful people. With TIP, I am a host on the We Study Billionaires podcast, and I also help run our TIP Mastermind Community, which is a community of like-minded value investors.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆?
I prefer to invest in the best of the best businesses. Typically, these businesses are growing their intrinsic value by 15%+ and have a long runway to grow. These types of companies are rare, so once you find them, it’s essential to purchase them at a fair price and give them many years to compound earnings and grow. To quote Charlie Munger, "Inactivity strikes us as intelligent behavior."

My biggest mistake is certainly not starting earlier. While I was familiar with investing early on, I didn’t take it seriously enough. My second biggest mistake was focusing too much on headline valuations early on. This led me to selling great companies like Netflix $NFLX and Tesla $TSLA because I thought they were way too expensive — which I was quite wrong about! Truly exceptional businesses tend to look optically expensive over much of their history.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
I’ve been working in IT for nearly two decades now. My academic background is in mathematics. I’ve always been drawn to numbers, patterns, and logic. There’s something deeply satisfying about finding structure in chaos, and that same mindset naturally pulled me toward the financial markets.

I started investing back in 2011. My first real conviction play was $AAPL. I held it for a decade, and that single position taught me one of the most powerful lessons in investing: time in the market beats timing the market. In 2017, I added $TSLA and $AMZN to the mix. Like many others, I sold them in 2021, too early, in hindsight. That one still stings. But every trade leaves a scar or a story, and the market is the best teacher of humility I’ve ever known.

From there, I spent three intense years trading futures and options. It was fast-paced, high-risk, and unforgiving. That chapter pushed me to my limits. It taught me how quickly conviction can crumble if you don’t have a solid system in place. It also revealed a lot about my own psychology under pressure, and where my real strengths and weaknesses lie.

The real turning point came when I stopped trying to catch every move. I started journaling every trade, every thought, every mistake. Risk management became the cornerstone of everything I did. I slowed down, zoomed out, and shifted toward long-term investing and long-term swing trading in 2023. Since then, I haven’t looked back.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆?
I switched to long-term investing and long-term swing trading in 2023, and I have stuck with it ever since. I have not looked back.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼?
I own about 20 stocks. My top 5-6 positions make up over 50% of my portfolio. The top 3 alone are 30%.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Reflecting on my journey, I can’t help but remember a time when things felt darker and the light at the end of the tunnel was dim.

Like many first-generation immigrants in New York, my family faced financial struggles. My parents tried to shield my brother and me, but we still saw the hardships, which largely stemmed from my father’s failed business ventures. Despite initial success, his inability to part with those close to him and his belief in people's goodness ultimately hindered him in a world that values pragmatism over kindness.

Failure, though painful, is a great teacher. Growing up, I often wondered why some people thrived while others didn't. My brother and I would ride our bikes to the Brooklyn Promenade, dreaming of the day we'd work in the shiny offices across the river. I still remember the awe I felt being part of NYC.

After college, I joined the Army to give back, and upon returning home, I focused on finding a job and my next steps. Although I missed the 2008 financial crisis, I paid close attention to its causes.

Since then, I've invested successfully, and after the pandemic, I connected with like-minded individuals, building a thriving community of investors to explore new ideas.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆?
While many people tend to fixate on the equity side of the equation, I focus more on cash flow and credit. Understanding a company’s financials provides a unique insight into its overall health and whether it’s worth investing in. People often get caught up in trends and forget that, ultimately, companies need to generate profits to survive. I look for those businesses that can create meaningful cash flow while the market isn’t paying attention.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼?
I currently own 10 stocks.

$CCL - Carnival Cruise Line
$NCHL - Norwegian Cruise Line
$VG - Venture Global
$GOOGL - Alphabet

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻?
$CCL - Carnival Cruise Line. While many wrote it off, I picked it up near the bottom and have done exceptionally well. The company's turnaround is a prime example of prudent capital allocation and effective credit management.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲?
After a series of wins in 2016, my overconfidence in distressed debt in the oil and gas sector caught me off guard. I invested heavily in a distressed E&P company's debt, trading below its intrinsic value. It performed well at first, but I later realized secured lenders had struck behind-the-scenes deals, getting paid in full while unsecured lenders like me were left with nothing when the company collapsed. This reminded me that, in the end, those with capital make the rules.
