AST SpaceMobile and Rocket Lab both operate in the space industry, but the way they turn space into a business is very different.

AST SpaceMobile, founded in 2017, is focused on one clear idea: bringing mobile coverage to places where cell towers don’t reach. Instead of building more towers, AST wants regular smartphones to connect directly to satellites. The company’s success depends on rolling out a large satellite network and working closely with mobile carriers to make the service available to everyday users.

Rocket Lab was founded in 2006 and has been operating in space for nearly two decades. It started as a small launch company, helping customers send satellites into orbit, and over time expanded into satellite components and complete space systems. That means Rocket Lab can generate revenue not only from launches, but also from the hardware and services that other space companies and governments need. A key growth driver is Neutron, Rocket Lab’s next-generation rocket designed for larger missions and bigger contracts.
