📰 Uber Launches Teen Accounts in the UK
New Teen accounts give parents real-time ride tracking, safety features, and greater peace of mind across the UK.
Uber UBER 0.00%↑ has launched a new service in the UK designed to give parents more control over their teenager’s journeys. The Uber Teen feature, now available across all UK cities where Uber operates, allows parents of teens aged 13-17 to monitor their child’s rides and receive real-time notifications whenever a ride is requested. The service lets parents view key details about the trip, such as the driver’s name, photo, and the route being taken, while offering additional security features like PIN verification. Only highly-rated, experienced drivers are allowed to accept trips booked by teens, providing further reassurance to parents.
This initiative comes after a survey commissioned by Uber, revealing that UK parents spend an average of nearly eight days each year driving their children to activities. Many parents (59%) reported adjusting or canceling their own plans to act as a "taxi service" for their teens. Uber’s Teen accounts aim to reduce this burden, offering a safe, independent travel option for young people while ensuring peace of mind for parents. Along with the Teen accounts, Uber is also introducing a £2.49 monthly discount for students and trialing a new ride-sharing option, XShare, in Bristol, which allows passengers to save up to 20% on fares by sharing rides with others.
The Uber Teen service was developed in partnership with ParentZone, a UK-based organization that promotes online safety for families. Vicki Shotbolt, CEO of ParentZone, emphasized that the new feature provides teens with an efficient way to travel independently while ensuring that parents remain informed and reassured. Uber’s UK General Manager, Andrew Brem, expressed excitement about the feature, stating that it was designed to help busy families navigate the challenges of modern life, offering convenience, safety, and transparency for both parents and teens alike.
